The agreement between you and Brake Spoon, Inc. covering trip fees, vehicle custody, repair authorization, and cancellation — in plain language.

Who we are

Brake Spoon, Inc. ("Brake Spoon", "we") is a vehicle-service concierge based in Richmond, Virginia. We pick up your car, take it to an independent licensed repair shop or state inspection station, coordinate the work with you, and return the car. We are not a repair shop: inspections and repairs are performed by independent businesses, and Virginia state inspections are performed only by stations licensed by the Virginia State Police. By booking a trip you agree to these terms.

Booking and fees

Each trip has a flat fee, shown before you pay: $59 for next-day return or $89 for same-day return. The fee covers pickup, transport, shop scheduling and every call with the shop, quote review and approvals from your phone, and return of the vehicle. It is charged when you book. If a same-day repair needs a part the shop cannot get that day, we tell you before anything else is charged and the trip is billed at the next-day rate, with the difference refunded.

Service is available at addresses we cover in and around Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield, Virginia. The booking page checks your pickup address; we may decline or refund a booking outside the area we can serve.

Approvals and pass-through billing

No repair or service is authorized without your approval of that specific line item, given from your phone or in writing. Parts, labor, shop supplies, and state fees are passed through at the shop's price with no markup or commission to Brake Spoon. Approved shop charges are billed to the card used at booking; you authorize us to keep that card on file with our payment processor for approved work and for the change fees described below. Receipts and any parts warranty documents are passed on to you.

Rescheduling, cancellation, and refunds

More than 24 hours before your pickup window: reschedule or cancel free, with a full refund on cancellation. Within 24 hours of the window: rescheduling carries a $5.20 fee charged to the card on file, and cancellation carries a $10 fee retained from your refund. Within 2 hours of the window, changes are handled by text or email rather than the booking page. Refunds return to the original payment method, typically within 3–5 business days. If Brake Spoon cancels a trip, you receive a full refund of the trip fee.

Vehicle custody and your responsibilities

Your car is driven by an authorized Brake Spoon driver. We photograph the vehicle at pickup and at return, and the trip is GPS-tracked; those records are available to you. You confirm that the vehicle is yours to hand over (or that you are authorized by the owner), that it carries the registration and insurance Virginia law requires of its owner, and that it is in a condition that can legally and safely be driven — or that you have told us otherwise so transport can be arranged. Please remove valuables; personal property left in the vehicle is your responsibility. We may decline a vehicle that cannot be driven safely or legally.

Third-party shops and warranties

Repairs and inspections are performed by independent shops and licensed inspection stations. Warranties on parts and workmanship are the shop's or the manufacturer's, and we pass them through to you. If there is a problem with work a shop performed, tell us: we will pursue it with the shop on your behalf, but the shop remains responsible for its work.

Our responsibility for the vehicle

We are responsible for damage caused by our handling of the vehicle while it is in our custody, established against the pickup and return photographs. We are not responsible for pre-existing damage recorded at pickup, mechanical failures not caused by our handling, or personal property left in the vehicle. Report any concern about the vehicle's condition as soon as possible, and within 7 days of return, to hello@brakespoon.com.

Communications

By booking you agree to receive texts and emails about your trip: confirmations, the evening-before confirmation, status updates, quotes and approval requests, and receipts. Reply STOP to any text to stop texts; we will then use email for anything your trip requires.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. We may update these terms; the date above reflects the current version, and material changes will be communicated before they apply to an existing booking. Questions: hello@brakespoon.com.
